Your Business is Food; don’t throw it away

Reducing costs is easier than you may think

Every year more than 500,000 tonnes of food are wasted in restaurants, pubs, hotels and quick service restaurants in the UK. ‘Your Business is Food; don’t throw it away’ is a series of resources designed to help businesses take practical steps to review the food they throw away; make an action plan to reduce it; and implement long-term changes to sustain good practice and reduce costs. 

WRAP Cymru and the British Hospitality Association teamed up together to deliver a pilot trial to test the resources with the help of seven participating restaurants and hotel businesses across Wales. Each business was introduced to the materials and then set about tracking and measuring the waste generated from preparation, plate and spoilage.  Not only were they able to see how much food was being wasted, but the tracking calculator also showed how much it was impacting on their bottom line.  Armed with this valuable information, each business was able to implement an action plan of changes to reduce waste and save money.
