Retail

Approximately 5.9 million tonnes of household packaging waste is generated in the UK every year, of which around 6% come from Wales. Around 7,500 tonnes of packaging waste was diverted from landfill by WRAP’s work in Wales last year , but the challenge remains significant.

Reducing waste

WRAP Cymru is pleased to receive funding from the Welsh Assembly Government to support WRAP’s work on reducing retail and packaging waste through the Courthauld Commitment.

The Courtauld Commitment is a voluntary agreement between WRAP and major grocery retailers and brand owners, which is leading to new solutions and technologies so that less food, products and packaging ends up as household waste. Over 40 major retailers, brand owners, manufacturers and suppliers have signed the agreement since its launch, representing 92% of Wales’ grocery supermarkets.
