The current highlights and trends are:


Recovered paper prices 

 • News & PAM prices have averaged around £98 per tonne since the start of the year.  OCC prices saw a drop in February 18 to £58 per tonne . They had traded at well over £100 per tonne between November 2017 and January 2018.  Mixed paper and board prices have continued to decline to around £20 per tonne, having varied greatly throughout  2017. The average price during 2018 so far is £37 per tonne. 


UK / Trade  

 • UK exports of recovered paper reached 371kt in December 2017, similar to levels seen 12 months prior. Exports have fluctuated throughout the year, peaking   at 437kt in December 2017. 

o UK mill usage of recovered paper was estimated at 263kt in November 2017, 35kt more than usage seen in November 2016.


Paper PRN prices

 • Paper PRN prices traded at 1.50 per tonne in January 2018.. 

Total paper packaging recycling totalled 922kt in Q3 2017, an increase of 32kt on the previous quarter and 80kt less than the same quarter of the previous year. Exports of paper packaging  increased by 29kt to 586kt while UK reprocessing rose to 336kt.



 • Pulp prices continued to rise, reaching £762 per tonne in February.
