The current highlights and trends are:


Recovered paper prices 


News & PAM prices currently stand at around £83 per tonne, having started the year at around £100 per tonne.  OCC continued to decline to £53 per tonne. They had traded at well over £100 per tonne between November 2017 and January 2018.  Mixed paper and board prices have continued to decline to around £13 per tonne, having varied greatly throughout 2017. The average price during 2018 so far is £27 per tonne. 


UK / Trade  


UK exports of recovered paper stood at 339kt in February 2017, around 30kt less than levels seen 12 months prior. Exports have fluctuated throughout the year, peaking   at 436kt in June 2017. 

UK mill usage of recovered paper was estimated at 268kt in January 2017, 15kt more than usage seen in January 2017.


Paper PRN prices


Paper PRN prices traded at just under £3 per tonne in March 2018. 

Total paper packaging recycling totalled 952kt in Q4 2017, an increase of 30kt on the previous quarter and 48kt less than the same quarter of the previous year. Exports of paper packaging  increased by 61kt to 647kt while UK reprocessing declined to 305kt.




Pulp prices continued to rise, reaching £775 per tonne in April.
