Clare Southworth

Clare heads the Sustainable Products policy team at the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), with responsibility for government policy on environmental labelling, green claims and environmental footprinting, as well as policy oversight of specific work on textiles, electrical products and sustainable palm oil.

Prior to taking up this role, Clare led Defra’s Resource Strategy Team, looking at the Department’s strategy on waste, resource management and the circular economy.  Clare has previously held a variety of policy roles in the Department for Work and Pensions and spent time on secondment to the Council of Europe.

Clare holds a masters degree in European Studies from the College of Europe and an undergraduate degree from the University of Cambridge.
