Capital funding for Welsh reprocessing infrastructure

5th September 2012

Reprocessors in Wales have another opportunity to bid for help towards the cost of large-scale infrastructure projects. The third funding round of WRAP Cymru’s ARID (Accelerating Reprocessing Infrastructure Development) programme opens 5 September.

ARID provides grants of around £250,000 to £500,000 to projects in Wales’ Convergence region, which encompasses North West Wales, West Wales and the South Wales valleys. The programme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.

Funding is available for infrastructure dealing with commercial and industrial wastes and which will add value to recycled materials and provide high quality recyclate for Welsh manufacturers. Target materials include organics/compost (excluding paper and card), plastics, treated/contaminated wood, WEEE, textiles, flooring, tiles, insulation and composites.

Organisations interested in bidding for funding during this round are being invited to attend one of three information sessions, where they can find out more about the ARID programme and learn how to maximise their chances of a successful bid.

The sessions will be held at:
18 September – Technium Optic, St Asaph
19 September – Halliwell Centre, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Carmarthen
20 September – Eco-Building, Cwmbran

Bettina Gilbert, European Projects Manager at WRAP Cymru, said:

“The ARID programme is an excellent source of funding for reprocessors able to demonstrate that they are planning cutting-edge projects using the best possible technologies for the wastes with which they work.

“It is designed to speed up the development of reprocessing capacity in the areas of Wales which are most in need of economic development, while diverting target commercial and industrial wastes from landfill. With its offering of match funding of up to 40 per cent, it can make a significant difference to the success of large-scale infrastructure projects."

Applications for the funding round close on 4 December. Potential applicants can contact Bettina to find out more or book their information session place on or 029 2044 8090.
