Analyse category

Once category scope has been agreed, buying teams need to analyse the category and assess the market offer on resource efficient and sustainable improvements.

This guidance note will help you to analyse the category and answer the following questions:

  • Do you have a process and template for analysing the category and the market and have you amended this to include relevant waste prevention, water and/or energy considerations?
  • Do you know where to gain market knowledge on waste, water and/or energy issues relating to your category?
  • Do you understand where in the supply chain the waste, water and/or energy hotspots exist?
  • Do you understand what levels of performance currently exist in terms of reducing waste, water and/or energy within your category?
  • Do you understand the potential cost implications and/or savings opportunities associated with reducing waste, water and/or energy relating to your products and the suppliers’ performance?
